WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University men's soccer team put together a complete performance on Thursday evening as they shutout Midway 5-0 in River States Conference play.
The Eagles improve to 5-10 on the year and also collect another conference win to move to 2-4 in the league standings.
Sammy Abraham put Asbury on the board first in the 15
th minute off an assist from
Neil Lumm to make it 1-0 Eagles.
Fionn McCartan would score back-to-back goals in the span of 59 seconds off two assists from
Noah Welch to give Asbury a 3-0 lead.
McCartan placed a header into the back of the net on a perfectly executed free kick from Welch in the second goal between the pair.
With a 3-0 lead at halftime, Asbury was in cruise control. The Eagles continued to play well throughout the second half.
A goal scored from
Antoine Yongbang on a put-back attempt gave Asbury a 4-0 lead.
Noah Welch would move into the scoring column late in the half with the final goal of the match in the 79
th minute.
Asbury out-shot Midway 17-11 in the victory.
Isaac Amaya led the Eagles with five shots, four of which landed on-goal. McCartan scored twice and posted three shots.
Goalkeeper
Brian Wood got the win in front of the net and played all 90 minutes of action.
AU is back in action on Thursday, October 24 at Cincinnati Christian.
