Luce Center

The George E. Luce Physical Activities Center serves as the home of Asbury Athletics. The 70,000 square-foot multi-dimensional facility was built in 1993 and has experienced several student-focused renovations and updates since the summer of 2018.

The Luce is named to honor the memory of Asbury University's late Board Chairman, George E. Luce, who served in that capacity from 1978 until his death in 1990. Dr. Luce was former Chairman of the Blue Bird Bus Body Company of Fort Valley, Georgia. He attended Asbury in 1938-39 and served as a member of the AU Board of Trustees for 33 years.

The Luce Center features the Asbury Team Suite, Team Meeting Room, Strength and Performance Room, Sports-Medicine Center, Indoor Golf Practice Facility, basketball and volleyball courts, an eight-lane swimming pool, an indoor running/walking track, locker rooms for multiple Asbury teams (volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball), a climbing gym and the Athletic Department office suite. In addition, the Luce Center is also equipped with classrooms and an exercise science lab.

Team Meeting Room
In the winter of 2023 the Asbury Team Meeting Room was introduced to the Luce Center, movie theater style risers with seating for 55 student-athletes, large video screens for film, a conference table, and a soft seating area all serve the purpose of enhancing the Asbury student-athlete experience. The barnwood finished wall and doors add a modernized theme to the room.

Indoor Golf Practice Facility
Asbury Athletics created a new indoor practice facility in the Luce Center for the AU Golf team, featuring two hitting bays and a turf putting surface with six holes. The facility also includes a SkyTrak launch monitor and a smart TV that deliver instant and real-time 3D shot analysis and ball-flight data.

“It was very important for our student-athletes to have a practice space on campus,” said VP for Intercollegiate Athletics & University Communications Mark Whitworth. “We are extremely grateful for the support of key donors and our good friends at Signcraft that made this dream a reality. We pray that this facility will signify the growth in our golf program and attract new students to help win championships and glorify God in the process.”

The space was originally utilized as a racquetball court. It now provides AU with a state-of-the-art practice area highlighted by custom designed graphics from Signcraft USA.

Asbury Team Suite
The Asbury Athletics Team Suite, dedicated by the AU Board of Trustees October 28, 2018, was specifically designed as the exclusive meeting location for student-athletes, coaches and staff. Featuring custom hardwood floors and reclaimed barn-wood donated by Old World Timber. The Team Suite is conveniently located directly inside the Luce Center game-day entrance near the northwest parking lot.

2019 Renovations
During the summer of 2019 the Luce Center experienced several student-focused renovations, including a new strength and performance room and an expansive athletic training and rehab room. The lobby was also updated with a stone-wrapped welcome desk, a feature wall with illuminated AU logos and digital signage highlighting student-athletes, coaches, and sponsors. New branding throughout the facility, along with the new Team Suite and Game-day entrance were added in the fall of 2018.
