Kirkland Complex: Cecil Zweifel Baseball & Softball Fields

The Kirkland Complex, named in honor of Rev. Jiles E. Kirkland ’50, serves as the home of the Asbury baseball and softball programs, as well as the Lybass Garden Plaza. The Bowdoin Athletic Practice Facility is also located inside the Kirkland Complex, directly between the baseball and softball fields. All facilities are conveniently connect by a large sidewalk leading from the Luce Center on the beautiful campus of Asbury University.

Lybass Garden Plaza
Located within the Kirkland Complex, the Lybass Garden Plaza was built in the summer of 2023 and dedicated to Dr. Oregon Lybass and family on September 22, 2023.

The Garden Plaza is dedicated to Dr. Oregon Lybass and the Lybass family. Friends, family, and Asbury alumni generously donated funds to provide a beautiful space for students, families, and guests to enjoy while watching or participating in events and activities at the Kirkland Complex and athletic venues.

Zweifel Baseball Field
Dimensions: LF - 337, CF - 402 , RF - 325
The home of Asbury baseball is named for Cecil Zweifel, who is widely regarded as the “father of Asbury Athletics. He began the baseball program in 1983 and served as the program’s first head coach. Regarded as one of the top facilities in the conference, Zweifel Field is a Bluemuda natural grass surface and features stadium and chair-back seating.

Softball Field
Dimensions: LF - 200, RF - 200, CF- 210
The Asbury Softball Field was upgraded prior to the start of the 2020 season with a new resurfaced infield along with new sod in front of both dugouts and behind home plate. Additionally, a new Asbury Eagles scoreboard sits behind the centerfield wall. The outfield features a Bluemuda natural grass surface. Summer 2021 the facility was upgraded again with a brand new press box that sits behind home plate.

The two-story press box structure features a climate-controlled elevated view above the softball grandstands for game management staff and live-streaming broadcasts on the Asbury Sports Digital Network.

The press box also provides the capability to produce live radio broadcasts of AU Softball. The first floor provides much-needed storage space. The project also includes the installation of a new permanent sound system for the softball facility.

Bowdoin Athletic Practice Facility
The Bowdoin Athletic Practice Facility was dedicated and opened in March of 2018, is conveniently located between the Baseball and Softball fields. It features a turf surface throughout with two batting cages and a 90-foot space for throwing.

Similar to the Kirkland Complex, the Bowdoin Athletic Practice Facility is named after a family with a longstanding Asbury connection. The University's relationship with the Bowdoins spans 70 years and dates back to the late 1940s.

Dr. Herbert L. Bowdoin '51 was a colleague and dear friend to Rev. Jiles E. Kirkland '50 from early childhood and throughout their ministries. His children and grandchildren later attended Asbury. Notably, his son Mike Bowdoin '86 played on one of the University's baseball team.
